Secure Internet Sharing and Firewall Installations
The BeadleNet Home2000 offers a complete solution for home users wanting to network their computers over existing telephone lines, while securely sharing a single high-speed Internet connection such as cable or ADSL without interrupting telephone services.
The Home2000 provides a secure networking/Internet-sharing environment by utilizing several technologies in one unit. Its firewall technology provides network security from Internet hackers, router functions for Internet-sharing and networking through HomePNA, USB and Ethernet technology.
According to a recent report published by Jupiter Communications, a leading industry research firm, it is estimated that more than 15 million of the nearly 100 million homes in the United States have two or more PCs. This number is growing 30 percent annually; while the number of multiple-PC homes is growing faster than the number of single-PC homes.
Supporting high-speed Internet access, through cable or ADSL modems, the Home2000 allows all users on a network to simultaneously access the Internet at speeds up to 100 times faster than standard analog modems. These high-speed technologies provide users with a continuous 24-hour connection, though convenient, and faster, this "always on" connection can leave unsecured computers open to Internet hackers.
The Home2000 utilizes Stateful Packet Inspection technology, which filters all messages traveling between the Internet and computers on a network, preventing unexpected packets from ever reaching the private side of the firewall.
Utilizing Internet Protocol (IP) routing for Internet-sharing, the Home2000 supports Network Address Translation (NAT), allowing a single IP address to be shared by multiple computers; and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), which automatically configures the communication between each computer and the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
As a member of the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA), BeadleNet's Home2000 is compliant with the standards set forth by the organization. HomePNA was formed to develop specifications for interoperability of networking devices utilizing standard telephone lines.
The BeadleNet Home2000 acts as the centerpiece of the home network, connecting the high-speed modem and each computer through the home phoneline network. This allows all users to simultaneously share high-speed Internet access, files, printers, exchange e-mail, play networked games and talk on the telephone.
Phoneline networking uses no additional wiring, and is easy to install. Subsequent computers on the phoneline network need only a HomePNA card (sold separately) installed in their computer, and a standard RJ-11 telephone cord plugged into the wall jack between them to have complete access to the network and the Home2000 unit.
Firewall Installations
The Corporate Server software converts a standard PC into a dedicated hardware firewall appliance in less
than ten minutes. Configuration is performed from an easy to use GUI that is accessible from any web browser.
The use of standard PC hardware has major advantages in terms of cost, flexibility and support compared
with proprietary hardware appliances.
SmoothWall Corporate Server is a modular firewall system. Mid-range in terms of
features and performance, Corporate Server can support networks of many
hundreds of computers. Designed for ease of installation and configuration,
it is especially suitable for small to medium size organisations and corporate
branch offices that do not have specialist security staff. |
